Is Indian media losing its glitter of being the friend of down trodden, a responsible friend & guide of society?

Recently I read a column in The Hindu newspaper about our Current Indian Media & its role. The author was worth to raise its voice against the current practices of Indian media. The column rightly raises the issue: Is Indian media really encroaching the fundamental rights of society?

Is it not true that today media is paying much more attention towards glamorous news and interfering the person’s private affairs which is the violation of person’s fundamental rights? The examples are abounding. The media played a lot with Shoaib-Sania issue for a long time giving self prepared masala. Media played a lot with long back Arushi murder case. They not only interfered to the personal lives of parents but also started giving self prepared decisions. Even later court gave a great setback to media by depicting their encroaching role for a long time. Today 24x7, you can see the news channels showing IPL3 and Lalit Modi issues. Media today also makes the person convict even before any enquiry takes place.

Today India is facing so many problems ie. high inflation rate which have direct impact on people, a galore of industrial investment in entertainment which is needed to be invested in education, infrastructure generation, employment generation and poverty alleviation. So many government programs are going on by govt of india . Is media working as a watch dog on the implementation of these programs? Is it true that media today is quite far from covering these issues?

The biggest attack on the Indian troops took place in Dantewada, Chhattisgarh but media took the least interest to showcase the flaw in government policies. The media even didn’t take the smallest steps to cover the names of the martyrs. The relatives of the police troops are wandering here & there to get the exact information about their spouses but none of the media person came out to help them out. Is media taking the new steps to raise sensible issues which can really helpout India for a long term perspective? Is it true that today the top most Indian news channel posing the nude picture of society?

Is it really true that media has become the agency of politicians and burglars ?

The question is worth, Is Indian media losing its glitter of being the friend of down trodden, a responsible friend & guide of society? The media has a long role to make an effect on society’s thinking. It was media only which completely revolutionised the Indian mass and a great renaissance took place which not only resulted the freedom achievement for India but also putforth a large number of social writers, workers, intellectuals who really laid down the path of progress of India.
